When Can I Start and How Much Does It Cost? Kung Fu classes are ongoing. The cost for Kung Fu classes is $65.00 per month. Water Style Boxing classes are $45.00 per month for Beginner classes and $65.00 per month for Intermediate classes. Tai Chi classes are ongoing. The cost is $65.00 for eight lessons. Push Hands and Tai Chi Applications is $40.00 per month. Combine any two classes and the cost is $95.00 per month Private lessons with Steve Martin can be arranged for $45.00 an hour. |

is Water Style Boxing? It is called "Water Style Boxing" because the movements resemble the action of water: deep and calm when at rest, smooth and powerful in motion. It is also called "Six Harmonies and Eight Methods Boxing". It is practiced slowly, with attention to the breathing and the flow of internal energy in the practitioner's body. |

is Tai Chi? Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese form of movement. It is more than an exercise. It involves meditation, centering and balance. The purpose of this slow moving form of kung fu is threefold: health, beauty and self-defense. Anyone, at any age, can practice Tai Chi. |

are Chi Gung and Noi Gung? Chi Gung moves energy through the body to open and balance your energy. Noi Gung exercises increase a person's internal energy. Chi Gung is offered in the Tai Chi class. Noi Gung is taught in the Water Style Boxing class. These exercises can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and let you focus your energy in a calm and purposeful way in your life. |

is Dragon Style Kung Fu? Dragon style kung fu is a powerful, short range fighting system that developed in a temple in Canton Province, China. Lam Yiu Kwai (1877-1968) was the Grand Master of the style. The style is famous for its' use of the hands and forearms. The movements are spirals of energy. The spirit of the style is the spirit of the Dragon - wise, agile, slow to anger, and decisive. |

is Mo Gar Kung Fu? It is one of the five family styles of Southern China (the others are Hung, Li, Choy, and Fut Gar). It is famous for its leg work and kicks. The Grand Master was Lam Yum Tong. He was a friend and associate of Lam Yiu Kwai. Their schools were located near each other, and they shared students. As a result, it is traditional to teach MO Gar in conjunction with Dragon Style Kung Fu. The two styles are complementary, since one favors hand techniques and the other emphasizes footwork. |

are "forms"? The forms (or "kata" in Japanese) are a sequence of techniques or movements joined together in a purposeful way. These forms have been handed down from martial arts teachers to their students. At Sojourn Past Martial Arts Institute, we teach both open-hand and weapon forms. The forms are taught from the basic to the more complex. It is typical for a student to learn three or four open-hand forms before beginning the first weapon form. |

is the difference between internal and external styles? The primary difference is in the percentage of focus between strengthening the internal energy and strengthening the external energy. At Sojourn Past Martial Arts Institute we believe there has to be a balance between internal and external energy, and that both need to be trained simultaneously. |
